Another "In Progress" update
The latest amplifier continues, this time with woodworking, and a description can be found by navigating to the "In Progress" section. aaronv 10:15pm 27 Apr 09 |

More "In Progress"
Finally, another update to the "In Progress" section. The mild spring weather turned cold and blustery this past weekend, so the latest HEXFET amplifier finally got a little quality time. It doesn't look like much yet, but the metal work is always very time consuming. aaronv 11:00pm 06 Apr 09 |

Random Blather
Sorry for the six-week blackout, I developed some sort of sleep disorder (probably a mild case of stress-induced sleep loss and depression) and I've kind of been tuning in and out of life since the second week of Februrary or so. Ambien is a beautiful thing but it's only letting me get enough sleep to function normally, not solve the problem. I seemed to be evening out when Daylight Savings arrived and threw things off again, so...go figure. Not too much has happened on the project front, I have a small 25Wx2 desktop amplifier going in fits and starts. Finally got all of the metalwork done for the heatsink, which means I just need to put the output devices on the amp itself (each channel will use a nearly indestructible pair of TO-3 HEXFETs that were probably intended for a car amplifier power supply), then test, then get on with the chassis. Same design as the Slimline 60 but without the bridge-tied setup. I'm thinking of a black piano laquer look, but using spraypaint and polyurethane. More to come as time permits, but my moods are only sort of normal right now. If I go into a down swing, I can't really work up the mood to do much, and may just take it easy for most of the weekend. aaronv 9:45pm 16 Mar 09 |

General Site Updates
First, all news from 3Q and 4Q of 2008 has now been archived. If aimless babbling by yours truly is the kind of thing that really lights you up, go wild...it's all there in the "News Archive" section. Second, the In Progress section has been given a quick update. I still have stuff going, I just can't find a free weekend right now. Thankfully I still have a job in spite of present economic froo-fra, and business in the US power systems industry is still very strong, but I somehow think some change might be in my future. Don't know why or how, just praying about it and taking things a day at a time. Anyway, I will have another article up in the near future. I've got an educational item about fuses and circuit breakers in the queue, along with actual experimental data, and hope to have more to share soon. aaronv 10:30pm 01 Feb 09 |

Slimline 60 component amplifier
Finally got another article up. Check it out in the "Newer Projects" section -- this unit was a minimalist and very neatly assembled 60Wx2 unit that I constructed for my former roommate and his fiance on the even of their wedding. It has now been in service for over four months without the slightest hiccup. aaronv 02:00am 24 Jan 09 |
