'In Progress' updates, the exciting triquel

The supply is coming along nicely, with soft-start board having been completed, the second regulator heatsink assembled, and the current-limiter board well on its way. Simply follow the "In Progress" link in the menu at left.

'In Progress' updates

More work got done on the power supply over the weekend. The 'In Progress' section has been updated accordingly. I decided to reverse-thread the page, so if you missed Entry 1, scroll to the bottom and start there.

'In Progress' section now staffed

The "In Progress!" section now has an entry: the first glimmer of what is going into my upcoming multivoltage bench supply project, which has now been officially started (which basically means that I'm now past the "shopping and thinking about it" stage and have actually started Putting Things Together).

Meanwhile, the Project 68 Subwoofer article is in progress, but will probably require a few more days. Somewhere in there I also need to get my taxes done, what with April coming up fast, so that will be at least another week out unfortunately.

Balanced Line Converter

An application of Elliott Sound Product's Project 87 resulted in a small console that converts unbalanced signals to balanced line, and vice-versa. Built and intended as a bench tool for easily testing professional and higher-end consumer equipment.

You can find it in the "Audio Tools" section.

Simple preamp-as-line-booster project

This was an application of Elliott Sound Product's Project 88 as a line booster to drive a long unbalanced cable and compensate for low gain on the computer soundcard I was using at the time.

It has now been relegated to bench testing status, as I no longer have my equipment set up in that configuration. Still a good unit, though, and it uses an unusual regulator configuration in lieu of the usual LM78xx/79xx ICs. Also, it went together in a mere two evenings. Take a look -- it's in the "early projects" section.

DoZ Headphone amplifier, second revision

It's been a while since I updated the site, but I've been busy. At any rate, more content has now been added: the Version 2.0 DoZ-HP amp.

My original Class-A headphone amplifier left some things to be desired. This article covers how I fulfilled those desires by building a second version of the amplifier, using the twin benefits of prior experience and better parts. Article is located in the "Early Projects" section.

Small DC Bench Supply article now available

A quick review of what I did to obtain a small DC bench supply without spending too much money, plus some pointers to related ESP project ideas.

New 'Electronics / Miscellany" section

The "Miscellany" section will be a catch-all for any projects that do not fit elsewhere.

The first project is a simple grounding adapter that uses common parts from a hardware store, and provides far superior quality to a typical cheap plug adapter. Cost was only about US$20 and the build time is less than an hour.

New 'Audio Tools' section and first entry therein

Power supplies will continue to have their own section, but I have constructed a variety of other tools that were intended to futher my audio hobby, and which sometimes proved useful for other purposes, as well.

An "Audio Tools" section has now been created to accommodate these. The first entry, a simple 2-channel dummy load, has been placed there. Take a look -- this is a very simple, inexpensive, and useful tool to have.

Isolated PSU article now online

An isolated power supply is a critical tool when experimenting with new or possibly faulty equipment. Check out how I custom-built a supply capable of sustaining 12A continous current, and then start planning yours!

This is the first article in the Power Supplies section, available under Electronics in the site index at left.

Spit polish

The "About Me" page has been revised and various tweaks have been made to the site layout. Still deciding what to post next. It will probably be the 1.5kVA isolated power supply I built for use in testing my projects.

Second 'Early Project' is up

Shortly after my first project -- a headphone amplifier -- I started the subwoofer project I had been dreaming about for over a year. Before getting very far, I realized I needed more experience and a diversion to fill in the inevitable construction gaps in the sub (which took roughly a year to complete, as it happened).

A small power amplifier was the result, and the description of that project is now online.

The Resources page is live!

I'm pretty happy about this one; it represents information that I've spent years accumulating, now finally compiled in one convenient place. It includes a wide range of parts suppliers, tips and tricks for locating popular parts on eBay, and a number of book references for further study.

The page is long and I haven't had time to properly proof-read it, so for now, it is what it is. Hopefully all of the links are at least accurate. I also note, with dismay, that FireFox 2.0.0.11 will not link within a page to a location created via <A NAME="name"> unless the location in the URL bar points only to a folder and the file being displayed is a default or index file that is grabbed automatically rather than by direct link. Huh? Internet Explorer never had this problem from version 2, IIRC; what gives?

For now, FireFox users will have to access the various subsections by scrolling down to them.

Continuing updates

The "About Me" page is now staffed and ready for business. The "Resources" page is next; after all, what good is a Building Bug if you don't know where to get the parts? Once that's completed, I'll continue uploading content into the "Early Projects" section.

First project now online

Content...sweet, sweet content!

That's right, the site is now more than just pretty placeholders. The "Early Projects" section is up and has its first entry. It was a Class A headphone amplifier built entirely with parts stock that either was, or could have come from, RadioShack. (I hadn't located other local parts suppliers yet, although in time, I would discover several.)

It had some hum problems, especially in the left channel, and the design was crude...but it worked! And I was hooked. Check it out.

We're live, folks

The basic site is now up and running. There's nothing in the Index yet, but I hope to fix that in the next couple days. The first of my original DIY Audio projects will be the test subject.

Meanwhile, if you're new to DIY audio, check out Elliott Sound Products. Once you've looked around and have a few ideas going, drop by the forum and discuss them with a great group of audio hobbyists.

Look for more here in the next couple days.
